Greg was recently quoted regarding his opinion of Walker Corporation’s controversial skyscraper being built between Adelaide’s Parliament House and Festival Centre in a piece at the Guardian.
Here is the full comment from which Greg’s quote was taken, along with a link to the Guardian article.
“Beyond what is a shameful grab of priceless public Adelaide Park Land for private profit that destroys the deserved sense of place of South Australia’s Parliament and our proud democracy, it grossly over-shadows and imposes its will on the people of South Australia.
And – by sucking potential demand for floor-plate from the CBD’s land economy, it undermines the latent development potential of the whole city.
So much for a City Plan! So much for the Adelaide Park Lands Act! So much private profit and so little public gain. I am not opposed to tall buildings within the CBD proper. And I am not opposed to private capital. I am opposed to the blatant theft of public land, and the diminishment of our public purpose and intangible cultural Heritage.
Having been denied a public voice on this desecration by dint of my SA Public Sector executive contract obligations, with less than six weeks remaining before ‘retyrement’, I lend my voice in opposition to this assault on our intangible common wealth.
One tower bad. Two towers worse.”
