In January 2018, and published 6 Feb 2018, I wrote an op-ed piece positing Adelaide’s possible future as a ’City of Collections’. It included my strong endorsement for the ‘Adelaide Contemporary’ vision of friend and colleague, former Director, Art Gallery of South Australia and now Director of the National Gallery of Australia,  Nick Mitzevich.

Little were we to know, at the time of publication, that the centrepiece of the Marshall Liberal Government’s excellent ‘Investing in the Arts’ Election Platform would be released just a few short weeks later in late February. In that document, an alternative vision for a significant Aboriginal Arts and Cultures place to be established at what is now known as ‘Lot 14’ would become the centrepiece. I embrace this alternate vision and remain committed to the realisation of what is to be called ‘Tarrkarri: Centre for First Nations Art and Cultures’.
